SYRIUS - MOST-MÚLT-LESZ
A Collection of unreleased material from 1970-72
Hungarian Progressive/Jazz Rock, MP3 @ 224

Formed in 1962. Syrius moved to Australia in 1970, where they recorded most of their material. Their first LP "Devil's Masquerade" was recorded and released in Australia in 1971, one year later also released in their home country Hungary, but only in a limited amount of copies. After returning to Hungary the band hoped to be able to release more albums, which sadly turned out problematic. Their 33 minute suite "Széttört Álmok" was never officially released, only live performances were aired on radio. In 1976 the band finally released another album called "Széttört Álmok", but the title track in not the suite track ! This collection offers a complete live performance from 1970 of the original track, among a few english recordings the band made in Australia in 1971.

As far as I know they only realeased 2 albums, "Color" ('78) and "Uj szinek" ('82).

MERCY DEE WALTON - PITY AND A SHAME (1961)

Born in Waco, Texas on August 30, 1915, young Mercy Dee heard many
powerful and seasoned piano players. He heard them at "10c. house
parties" which would take place most every week-end out in the country.
Someone whould hire a piano player and find an empty house, charge 10c.
admission and the party was under way. Others would bring food and sell
it together with beer and moonshine. The piano player amde perhaps $1.50
for playing all night but as Mercy Dee says: "A dollar was a great thing
in those days". These parties would start on a friday night - go on all
day saturday and all that night until sunday. Usually during the course
of a week-end you could hear four or five different piano players. One of
these players was a man named Delois Maxey and he left a strong influence
on Mercy Dee. He never made any records but everyone around Waco knew him
as one of the best piano players.

Mercy Dee came to California before the second World War and moved around
from Los Angeles through the Central Valley to Oakland and San Francisco,
playing mostly for the farm workers who knew his kind of blues. After the
War, with large numbers of independent small record labels appearing like
wild-flowers all over the country, an enterprising Chinese-American named
Chester Lu contracted Mercy Dee to make some records. Spire was the name
of his label and the two discs by Mercy Dee were the extent of his
catalogue. But the records got around and other newly-founded labels
specializing in "Rhythm and Blues" heard of Mercy Dee and soon his records
were appearing on two or three different labels. When his hit records of
"One Room Country Shack" broke all over the country, Mercy Dee became a
full-time musician and entertainer.

BLIND SNOOKS EAGLIN - THAT'S ALL RIGHT (1961)

Sometimes billed as "Ford", more often as "Snooks", blind singer-guitarist
Fird Eaglin Jr. has been a profilic New Orleans rhythm and blues recording
artist for over three decades. His early sides, however, were more in a country
blues vein. At this 1961 session, he moved easily from moaning the down-home
"I'm a Country Boy" to shouting the Ray Charles R&B hit "I Got a Woman".
Wheter drawing his material from anonymous folk sources, the delta blues of
Big Boy Crudup and Tommy McClennan, the city blues of St. Louis Jimmy, Tampa
Red and Washboard Sam, or more contemporary jukebox favourites, Eaglin, in the
words of recordist Harry Oster, "transforms them all into something
characteristically his own".

OMEGA - DAS DEUTSCHE ALBUM (1972/73)

Hungarian Prog-legends Omega also recorded a couple of songs sung in german.
In 1972 they were discovered by the german producer Peter Hauke,
who got them a contract with the label "Bacillus" for 3 years. (The contract was extended later)
For "Bacillus" they recorded all their english albums too.
These german recordings were made in 1972/73, but this album
which is actually a compilation, was released in 1997.
Sadly only in 128 kbits, does anyone have a better copy ?

NOSFERATU - NOSFERATU (1970)
German Prog/Psychedelic, MP3 @ 256

Contrary to other bands produced by the famous Conny Plank (Kraftwerk, Guru Guru and many others),
Nosferatu's musical career was very short and suffered of a lack of
recognition by a larger public. Almost nothing is said about their history and the only thing we have from them is a fresh, enthousiastic, atypical jazzy rock album dominated by raw, aggressive guitars and progressive "folk" arrangements. Nosferatu belongs to this kind of German bands who success to create a deep and trippy atmosphere thanks to fine moments of long instrumental solos, crossing with an original touch guitars to sax, flute and electric organs. The lyrics are sung in english and stay very strong. An enjoyable effort which can be compared with other "cult" German fusion items.
Similar bands: Dzyan, Xhol, Sameti, Out of Focus.
